Marvin is an adult Shepherd/Malinois mix who has been with our shelter for just over a year. He is a very intelligent, high-drive dog with a strong work ethic and excels in structured environments. Marvin knows sit, down, wait, speak, drop, and leave it; he has a high ball drive, enjoys nose work, and has fairly reliable recall (though he can become distracted). He works well with familiar handlers and shelter staff.

Marvin does struggle with strangers and requires time and proper introductions. He has shown a tendency to fixate on people or objects (standing and staring without immediate reaction), and we are actively working with trainers to redirect his behavior before escalation. His primary challenge is reactivity to sudden or unexpected movement from unfamiliar people. The shelter continues Marvin's behavior modification training.

We believe Marvin would be best suited for an experienced, adult-only home or a professional placement with someone familiar with working or protection-type breeds who is comfortable managing stranger sensitivity and reactivity.

They call me Willa and tell me that I'm a special girl who deserves the world, but my troubled past makes me doubt that's true. I was on my own for at least 2.5 weeks before getting trapped and brought to the shelter; it's hard to go through something like that and not have trust issues.

Getting to the adoption floor has been a long time coming and I'm thankful for the staff who got me here but I'm ready for bigger and better things with someone who's love is true and won't give up when the going gets tough. I love wide open spaces, water, fetch, jolly balls and the wind in my fur. Once I know and trust you, you'll see the side of me that gets lost in the stress of the shelter and the uncertainty of a constantly changing environment. I don't love other dogs and I don't give my heart away easily but I promise I'm worth the time and the energy. (Oh and breed experience is a big plus in my book!)

Thor is an approximately 18-month-old Belgian Malinois mix looking for his forever home. He is an incredibly sweet boy with a fun, energetic personality and lots of love to give.

Like most Belgians, Thor has plenty of energy and would thrive with an active family or someone who enjoys walks, hikes, training, or outdoor adventures. He is eager to please and enjoys being around people.

Thor has shown no signs of aggression and is is a sweet, affectionate, energetic young dog who loves people and has a fun personality.

Thor was unfortunately left behind by a young owner who moved and didn't want the responsibility anymore  (and whose family has dumped dogs in the past). He is now being kept safe by people trying to help him get the second chance he deserves. All veterinary care, neutering, food, and transport assistance will be covered. There is a small adoption fee to be discussed to keep him safe

Honey is an 11-month-old Belgian Malinois mix looking for her forever home. She is a sweet, affectionate young girl whose favorite place is right beside her people. Ruthie is an amazing dog -- super sweet and smart and lovable. Adopted from the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society three years ago as a tiny puppy, Ruthie was one of 12 in a litter left under a bridge. We did a DNA test (which we can share) and she's mainly Siberian Husky, German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois.

She loves to play fetch at the dog park (watching her run is amazing!) or even in the living room with her favorite toy. She loves long walks and is great on a leash. She is totally housebroken and doesn't have accidents or destroy stuff in the house. She's an excellent watchdog and guards us from everything!

Our youngest dog has been bugging Ruthie for fun and play, which she does for a while -- but she can be territorial because of her breed & asserts herself as alpha. We recommend a home without other dogs, cats or small children so she can rule the roost and be your best friend!

I'm a Dutch Shepherd, turning 3 this New Year. My mom is making one of the hardest decisions of her life: rehoming me. She loves me deeply and wants an experienced home that understands working breeds and can give me the structure, leadership, and love I need.

I'm high-energy, driven, and sometimes in my own world, so I need a confident, experienced handler -preferably someone familiar with Dutch Shepherds or similar working dogs.

I CANNOT live with cats, small animals, or small dogs due to my prey drive, and I'm not suitable for homes with small children, as I get hyper and mouthy and try to "take charge." Please do not try to test these boundaries.

I generally do well with large dogs, depending on temperament and careful introductions. I grew up with my brother and likely have littermate syndrome, so my best fit is a well-managed dog home.

I'm very trainable: I know sit, down, stay, heel, a release word, some hand signals, I'm crate trained, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, and have done scent tracking. I'm highly reward-motivated and love fetch, especially with my blue and yellow spiky ball.

Ideal home: a single person or couple in a calm household, with time and consistency for training and exercise, possibly with another similar-sized dog after a careful intro.

Coco is a 2-year-old Dutch Shepherd mix who is looking for an active, home where she can put her intelligence and drive to good use. She was surrendered back to Ton of Fun K9 Academy after completing her training when her previous owners realized they could not provide the lifestyle she needed.

Coco is extremely intelligent, athletic, eager to please, and loves having a job. She has a strong training foundation, is well behaved, loves people, and is highly motivated to work. She especially enjoys using her nose, playing fetch, learning new skills, and being active.

Because of her energy and work ethic, we believe Coco could be an excellent candidate for dog sports, scent work, advanced obedience, hiking, or another active working lifestyle. Meet Athena! She's an approximately 1-year-old, 50-pound Belgian Malinois located in Northern California and available for adoption through Foothill Dog Rescue.

Athena is crate, potty, and leash trained and is incredibly smart, athletic, sensitive, and loyal. She loves training, tennis balls, puzzle games, sniffing out hidden treats, and having a job to do.

Athena is currently part of Paws on the Block, a partnership between Foothill Dog Rescue and Folsom State Prison where rescue dogs live and train alongside incarcerated handlers. Through individualized training, enrichment, structure, and patience, Athena has made incredible progress and formed deep bonds with her handlers.

As a sensitive working breed, Athena needs an experienced adopter who understands canine body language and how to balance physical activity, mental enrichment, routine, rest, and respect for her boundaries. She prefers time to observe and get comfortable with new people, but once she trusts you, her handlers say she is "a friend forever."

Athena needs to be the only dog, would do best in a home without young children, and requires a secure, fully fenced yard.

Luna is a sweet, approximately 9-month-old shepherd mix who is getting her first real chance to experience life as a loved family dog. Despite having very limited exposure to normal home life during her first months, she has blossomed incredibly quickly.

Luna is affectionate, cuddly, playful, and loves being close to her people. She is currently living with other dogs and a cat and has done wonderfully with them. She especially loves playing with her foster brother and has shown that she can share toys, beds, and affection.

Luna is still learning about the big world-things like stores, walks, household routines, and even sliding doors were completely new to her - but she continues to gain confidence every day. She enjoys car rides, comfy beds, treats, playing, and plenty of snuggles.

Luna has been examined by a veterinarian, had full bloodwork and heartworm testing, and is currently on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. She is currently intact, but she will be spayed prior to adoption.
